How to Create a Noise Texture in Aseprite

1. Fill the background color

First, use the bucket tool to fill the canvas with a base background color.

2. Create a new layer and brush with an overlay color

3. Apply effects to the layer

From
Edit > FX > Convolution Matrix,
apply an effect to the overlay layer.

"Drunk"-type effects tend to give a good noise-like result.

After that, customize as needed to match the image you're going for.

  • Change the effect on the overlay layer
  • Adjust the opacity of the overlay layer
  • Change the way the overlay layer is painted
